I saw someone post on Facebook today, "I'm on the pursuit of happiness...." I thought that statement was so true of all of mankind. We all seem to get very involved with pursuing happiness and not just pursuing, but chasing after happiness. I have noticed that when we seem not to get that happiness we are after, we can often act out in very painful ways to those around us. Unhappy people do some very unhappy things.
Scripture states in Psalm 144:15, "Happy is that people whose God is the Lord." and in Proverbs 16:20, “Whosoever trusteth in the Lord, happy is he."
I don't like to hear those verses because they inform me that most of my chasing for happiness is a waste of time and energy. They make me feel a little silly for all of the unhappiness I have invested in, simply because I have given an object that I am chasing the power over my happiness when I know full well that, even if I obtain that object of my desire, I will find something else to be unhappy about. Am I making sense here?
Lord, Remind us where true and lasting happiness comes from.
